So if you have a diamond moose you may not see any other diamonds except the 'not core' kind. Some diamonds are more common than others- and in the presence of a 'rare' diamond (such as moose) it's far more uncommon for the map to spawn diamonds in other slots, although occasionally it does happen. (Also uncommon.) It's more common to have 3 'core' diamonds like moose/wolf/bear, and 3ish 'not core' diamonds like rabbits, turkey, geese, ducks. If you dump your population file and let the game repopulate, it can have as few as 1 single diamond (uncommon) all the way up to 13ish. Obviously that's wrong and we know that now. There used to be a myth that there were only 2 at any given time, no exceptions.
